Quinton Thomas Freeman: Obituary

Was born on May 12, 2003 in Minneapolis, Minnesota but Pennsylvania became his home from kindergarten to graduating high school. He loved basketball, music, dancing and spending time outdoors with his friends, with a laugh that was undeniable. Quinton had many jobs. Sadly on May 16, 2022 Quinton passed away at the early age of 19. He did a lot but his best accomplishment was when he handed his mom Tresa Robinson his high school diploma. He will surely be missed.

Let there be light!

As the smoke from the incense lingered, a loud applause filled the worship space when the votives were lit and the lights turned on.

It was all part of the Dedication Mass at Most Holy Trinity Church in Cresco held Sunday and led by Bishop Joseph Bambera of the Diocese of Scranton.

A never before seen sketch of a decades old murder suspect is finally being distributed to the public. 52-year-old John Leonard Sr. of Cresco was killed on September 8th in 1970. It happened around 2:30PM at the Buck Hill Falls Hotel in Barrett Township -- which has since been demolished after falling into disrepair. Leonard was the taxicab driver of a black 1966 Plymouth Sedan for Mick's Taxi Service. He was called to the hotel where a white man with dark hair and approximately 30 to 40 years old approached the vehicle. Leonard was later found in the sedan dead with multiple gunshot wounds. Police say Leonard had five children at the time. He was a World War II veteran. And was an active member with the VFW and his community. If anyone has information on this crime-- you're asked to contact state police at Stroudsburg.

Skytop Lodge is one of the United States’ most traditional yet luxury accommodations.

Not only does it offer a fantastic all-inclusive package, but Skytop Lodge is also a member of the National Trust Historic Hotels of America. Skytop Lodge opened its doors in 1928 and has been welcoming guests since!

This photo of Skytop Lodge has special meaning for me. It is, first and foremost, the first place I saw fireworks as a kid. We lived down in the valley but every year would go and park along the golf course with other locals to watch the show. At that time, outsiders were not allowed in the gate especially for the fireworks! During the Second World War, the roof of the Lodge was used by plane spotters...my Dad was one....and later, when we were having troubles with the "Russkies", the skywatch was continued and I volunteered to take a shift...four hours? A bonus was to spend quiet time on that roof looking at the sky and the beautiful valley before me. I never saw any "enemy planes" but I did learn how to enjoy quiet time and enjoy my surroundings....a real gift for an "itchy" teenager. I soon left the Poconos for college and my grown up life. But that bit of responsibility coupled with the beauty of my home town has lived with me a very long time. It shaped my devotion to public service and a life of volunteering in other larger pursuits.

CRESCO, Pa. — On the outside, the former Monsignor McHugh School in Paradise Township, near Cresco, still looks like a school. On the inside, it has been transformed into a new worship space: Most Holy Trinity.

Over the past couple of years, parishioners have come together to volunteer their time to help make the new worship space. Mike Ziobro of Canadensis is one of them.

To the Editor: Illegal Use of Dirt Bikes

To the Editor:

Once again the illegal use of dirt bikes and quads has begun on some of the township roads and residential properties in Barrett. Not only is this activity illegal, it is dangerous and very annoying to many township residents. These bikes are seen as one or in groups, recklessly driving, speeding, and using both sides of the road, with seemingly no regard for other vehicles or people. These bikes are extremely loud, especially when being driven as fast as they are. It seems unfair to a taxpaying property owner wanting to enjoy time outside, with dirt bikes racing around on the roads, as well as private properties in residential areas. Anyone else with any concerns or questions about this issue can refer to Barrett Township Ordinance # 164, which addresses this issue. This ordinance can be viewed online at the Barrett Township website, or a copy can be obtained at the township building on Rt. 390 in Mountainhome. This ordinance was adopted for the very reason this article is being written and can be legally enforced. It should also be noted that this is not to target property owners who use quads responsibly on their property to do work and chores. But it is not fair that this illegal activity should be allowed to continue to appease a few at the expense of everyone else. Thank you.
