The Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority is the lead agency responsible for implementing the Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling, and Waste Reduction Act, known as Act 101
The Authority Police Department enforces the county’s solid waste ordinance and the Authority’s rules and regulations to make sure all persons and haulers comply with the county plan.

If you believe you have witnessed what looked to be illegal dumping or other environmental abuses, please take the time to file a complaint. Feel free to submit a complaint via our online complaint form or call us and ask to speak directly with a police officer.
The Waste Authority offers a reward system that gives you an incentive to keep Monroe County clean and free of litter. If the Waste Authority wins the conviction in District Court on behalf of your complaint, you will be rewarded $25.00 and the satisfaction of helping to eliminate illegal dumping.

The Waste Authority operates a self-sustained recycling facility. We have recycling locations around the county in which the residents can dispose of their recycling. We assist all the municipalities in implementing recycling programs of their own.

The Waste Authority is responsible for helping many Monroe County schools jump start recycling collection programs with the help of students and staff.
Beyond such duties, we participate in many community events across the county to encourage recycling and the general reduction of municipal waste.
