Michael Glen Oliver, 69, of Canadensis passed away suddenly on Monday, August 28, 2023. Born outside Pensacola, Florida, he was the son of the late Dewey Glen and Katherine Louise (Price) Oliver. Michael was the husband of the late Deborah Oliver.

Robert LaBar Obituary

Former Chief Robert "Bob" James LaBar, 77, of Cresco, PA passed away Monday August 21, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born in East Stroudsburg, PA to Charles W. LaBar and Linnie (Bradford) LaBar. Along with his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane Boise. Bob was the loving husband of Mabel "May" (Harrison) LaBar, to whom he was married for 55 years, although he claims he received a year off for good behavior. Along with May, he is survived by his siblings, Charles L. LaBar and wife Marlene, and Ann Chopek; children Christopher R. Harrison and wife Susan, and Joshua LaBar; grandchildren Edward R. Harrison, and Rebecca M. Harrison and husband Carson Counterman; great-granddaughter Jessica Harrison; niece Arlene "Suzie" LaBar and great nephew Weston LaBar; and sisters-in-law Lorraine (Harrison) Smith and Josephine (Harrison) Fish.

Leah Anne Capece

Leah A. Capece, 58, of Canadensis passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Pocono. Born in Jackson Heights, New York, she was the daughter of Mary (Valentine) Capece and the late Fabio Capece. Leah was the beloved wife of Douglas Scott Morgan with whom she shared 34 years of marriage. Leah worked for the Picatinny Arsenal and later built her own house cleaning business before becoming a devoted homemaker. She loved to garden and was a talented cook. Above all, Leah was an artist who saw the world through creative eyes and had an all-embracing knowledge of music. She loved animals and, most importantly, spending time with her cherished loved ones. Leah was 4' 11" and three quarters, and she didn't let you forget those three quarters. As Shakespeare once said, "Though she be but little, she is fierce."

Doris Fellows Obituary

Doris Price Fellows (nee Doris Helen Price) died peacefully with family by her side on July 7, 2023. Doris was nearly 100 years old, the last surviving child of Violet Hallett Price and Raymond Price of Mountain Home, PA. Doris, Mom, Mother, Dobbie, Dibby Dob, Gram, and Grandma Duck, is survived by her three daughters, Darcy Fellows Todia, Judith Fellows Froehlich, and Lucy Llwellyn Fellows; three grandchildren, Jaime Todia Wooten (Matt), Melissa Froehlich Flood (Brenden), and Rhys Todia (Jodie); and six great grandchildren, Madeline Wooten, Mackenzie Wooten, Corrigan Flood, Bastian Flood, Jack Todia, and Kylee Todia; and dozens of nephews, nieces and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Jane Townsend Price, Raymond Price, Jr., and Richard Llwellyn Price.

Doris lived most of her life in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania and upstate NY, raising her family in Syracuse and Fayetteville, NY. In her later years, she moved to Milford, Ohio, to be closer to family. She was well looked after by the amazing and kind team at SEM Haven for the later years of her life, where she was always at the head of the table and in the lead on all dance numbers.

In her youth, she attended Barrett Township Public Schools and graduated in the class of 1944 from Syracuse University where she was a fine arts major, cheerleader, member of the Tri Delta sorority, and voted Junior Beauty of 1943. Doris married Driscoll Harry Fellows, whom she met in college, on March 13, 1945, in Cresco, PA. In later years, she was an active alum and one of the founding members of Orange Plus, an organization supporting women's athletics at Syracuse, where she was inducted into the Orange Plus Hall of Fame in 1984.
Doris loved painting, drawing and anything artistic, including making artwork from shells from one of her favorite vacation spots, Sanibel Island. An active member of the Barrett Township Historical Society in her retirement, which brought her back home to the Poconos, Doris designed the Barrett Township Historical Society logo in 1995.

Harvey Fleegler

Harvey loved the outdoors and exploring different places. He spent over 30 years at Camp Canadensis in the Poconos. He was a true outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed teaching others to fish, including a generation of Camp Canadensis alumni, and most recently his grandsons. He was very resourceful and would tie his own flies and even make his own bullets. He loved to travel both overseas and across the United States, including driving his Honda Accord above the artic circle in Alaska.

He was born on July 20, 1946 in Scranton, PA to the parents of Virginia (Quick) Miller and John Miller, and to the grandparents of Ida and Claude Quick, who played a major role in Daniel's life. He was the loving husband of Diana (Reinhardt) Knecht with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Dee Ann (Luke) Sanchez, of Cresco PA, passed away on May 27, 2023, at the age of 78. She was born on December 20,1944 in Rochester NY to her parents Verna (Michaels) and Harry Luke. She was married to Frank Sanchez, with whom she shared 37 years of marriage. Dee was a board member at Penn Estates and the Chair of Recreation. Dee loved her family and her pets very much. She enjoyed gardening, doing puzzles, going on cruises, taking care of her yard and her many beloved pets through the years.

William Bender Obituary

William Clair Bender, 84, of Canadensis, died Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the Lehigh Valley Hospice House - Pocono in East Stroudsburg.

Born on July 22, 1938 at home in Canadensis, he was the son of the late Stanley G. and Hilda (Lee) Bender and lived in Barrett Township for most of his life.

He served in the United States Army and was co-owner of the family business, Bender's Diner in Mountainhome. Most recently he worked part-time for Mick Motors.

Cynthia was the wife of Randy Misko, with whom they shared 32 years of marriage, and the Mother of Connor Joseph Misko.

Lothar Alexander Schenk, of Cresco, PA, passed away on April 27, 2023 at the age of 85. He was born on August 20, 1937 in Germany to the parents of Eva (Hoffmann) and August Schenk. He was the loving husband of Elisabeth (Perz) Schenk, with whom he shared 60 years.

Phyllis Spooner Price, long time resident of Mountainhome, PA, passed peacefully on Friday, April 28th at Grace Park in Stroudsburg surrounded by her family and her Grace Park family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Richard L. Price, Sr., her parents Ray Newhall Spooner and Marjorie Bergen Spooner, and her sister Joan Spooner Baltzer.
