In Barrett, our local USPS drivers are not traditional USPS employees, they are subcontractors who actually "own" their route. When the current mail person retires or moves, the route gets sold to the next driver, etc. We've had plenty of issues with our local post office so I figured the following artice was appropriate to share -
U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) and U.S. Representatives Dwight Evans (D-PA) and Matt Cartwright (D-PA) have sent a letter urging United States Postal Service (USPS) Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to address the ongoing mail service issues for Pennsylvanians. The letter comes on the heels of a Congressional oversight hearing on USPS service issues in the Commonwealth that took place in Philadelphia last month. Casey, Evans and Cartwright demanded that the Postal Service develop and share a plan to improve mail service throughout Pennsylvania.
MONROE COUNTY (WOLF) — When you call 911 you expect there to be a dispatcher on the phone within seconds - while that may be the case - there's a struggle right now to fill those positions in our area
Gary Hoffman, Director of communications at Monroe County Control Center , has worked as a dispatcher and a volunteer firefighter. He tells me that these workers are the first call when an emergency takes place and they are truly saving lives. However, there are just not enough people filling the positions

Linda Besecker inherited land from her former teacher Ruth Henry.
Henry, Besecker’s third grade teacher, inspired Besecker to become a teacher too.
They taught together at the former Barrett Elementary School.
As Henry aged, Besecker took care of her and when Henry passed away she willed her land to Besecker.
Five years ago the land became Paradise Lavender farm in Cresco.
PUBLIC NOTICE - ESTATE NOTICE - ESTATE OF CHARLES J. GILBERT, a/k/a CHARLES GILBERT, late of Barrett Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania, deceased.
TAKE NOTICE that the Board of Supervisors of Barrett Township will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 8 a.m. at the Barrett Township municipal building, 993 Route 390, Cresco, Pennsylvania 18326 with respect to a proposed ordinance.
At the time of the public hearing, the Supervisors will listen to comments by members of the public concerning the proposed ordinance. If substantial amendments are not offered to the draft of the proposed ordinance, the Supervisors intend to consider enactment of the proposed ordinance immediately after the public hearing.
The proposed ordinance is entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWNSHIP OF BARRETT, MONROE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, AMENDING CHAPTER 525 (ZONING) OF THE BARRETT TOWNSHIP CODE OF ORDINANCE TO INCLUDE CERTAIN PROVISIONS REGULATING INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SHOOTING RANGES.
CRESCO, MONROE CO, (WOLF) — Weiler Abrasives, headquartered in Cresco, Pennsylvania, announced the expansion of its manufacturing operations into Juarez, Mexico with a new, 40,000-square-foot facility, scheduled to open in December 2022.
Monroe County - If we are to trust that the results of any given election are honest, fair, and truly represent the choices made by all qualified voters, then protecting the integrity of elections in our county is necessary. That’s why the legislature has enacted penalty provisions into the voting laws which seek to hold those violating the law accountable. The further a vote is removed from the in-person casting of ballots at a duly constituted polling place on election day, the nearer is the potential of fraud or irregularity. That’s why during the coming general election I have ordered that law enforcement throughout the county keep a vigilant eye on any potential voter fraud. Strict enforcement of our voting laws will occur if we are presented with evidence of fraud. Hopefully, our efforts will deter any who seek to violate our voting laws.
To Whom It May Concern:
Would it be possible for you to put this poster/flyer into the Barrett Community newsletter as both our Parents, John (murdered at age 52 at Buck Hill Falls Inn) and Madeleine Leonard (murdered at age 49 on Route 940 in Mt. Pocono), were residents of the Cresco, PA community and maybe someone will remember something to help solve our parents murders since we are approaching 52 years for these murders to be unsolved.
