A Canadensis man was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for charges stemming from an illegal crystal methamphetamine operation.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced on Wednesday, August 21 that James Counterman, 56, was charged for the distribution and possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of crystal methamphetamine, in addition to money laundering.

Since I have received numerous communications on road and bridge funding in relation to state police funding, I hope you will find the following information helpful. There is a tremendous amount of road work that needs to be accomplished in Monroe and Pike counties; however, we are moving forward. Please remember that Pennsylvania has the fourth largest roadway system in the country. With 40,000 miles of state roadways and 25,000 state-owned bridges – the third largest number of bridges in the country – the maintenance is constant, expensive and fierce. Due to the extreme weather conditions and flooding across the state this past year, several projects also lost funding due to flooding remediation. We are working diligently with PennDOT on prioritizing road work to the best of the financial capabilities.

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives quietly passed a bill requiring the Inspector General of the Department of Defense (DoD) to conduct a review into whether the Pentagon experimented with ticks and other blood-sucking insects for use as biological weapons between 1950 and 1975.

If the Inspector General finds that such experiments occurred, then, according to the bill, they must provide the House and Senate Armed Services committees with a report on the scope of the research and "whether any ticks or insects used in such experiments were released outside of any laboratory by accident or experiment design," potentially leading to the spread of diseases such as Lyme.

Ajit Pai is continuing his multi-year battle against local broadband regulation with a plan that would stop cities and towns from using their authority over cable TV networks to regulate Internet access.

Chairman Pai's proposal, scheduled for a vote at the Federal Communications Commission's August 1 meeting, would also limit the fees that municipalities can charge cable companies. Cable industry lobbyists have urged the FCC to stop cities and towns from assessing fees on the revenue cable companies make from broadband.

BARRETT TWP., Pa. - Police in the Poconos say a suspected heroin dealer tried to cover up a man's overdose death by hanging the body in a garage to make it look like a suicide. 

Chester Botch, 50, of Barrett Township, Monroe County, was arrested Friday.
