Welcome New Supervisors

It’s a politically exciting time in Barrett nowadays, as our voters recently elected 3 new supervisors.

Maybe it’s the low, end-of-year light, but on the trail to Mount Wismer, I seem to feel forest life settling down all around me. Black bears denning up, sows soon to birth young. White-tailed deer snuffling the leaf litter for acorns and beechnuts. Coyote and foxes, fishers and otters, rabbits, mice, and voles — do they smell snow coming? The cold-blooded creatures are still.

The sense of connectedness to the natural world is strong here. It’s quiet. The only sounds are the crunch of boots, rustle of leaves, and sighing breezes among bare branches.

Please take note and beware, there is a check scam targetting local checking account holders, confirmed with First Keystone Community Bank and heard from a reliable source that also People's Security Bank & Trust accounts.  The fake check was written to KENNETH STEPHENS and deposited.  Attached is a screenshot of the actual (fake) check with name and signature.  If anyone else has similar experience please forward any details or screenshots to This email address is being protected from spambots. Editor's Note: Kudos to our friends at Skytop Lodge for making this list!

“The gingerbread hotel at Skytop Lodge in Skytop, Pennsylvania, measures 19 ft. wide by 12 ft. deep and reaches a height of 11 ft. from its base. Production on the gingerbread hotel began in early August and the lodge staff set to work assembling the structure the week of Halloween. Once the frame was erected, the entire bakery team labored to attach the gingerbread and then the candy decorations.”

Vehicle Recall Day November 8, 2021

Submitted by Tracy Fox, Traffic Safety Coordinator Highway Safety Network

Did you know there is an easy way to make sure your vehicle is safe by checking for recalls? According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, in 2020 there were 886 safety recalls affecting 55 million vehicles and other equipment in the United States. Sadly, 25% of recalls are never repaired. By not having your vehicle repaired it could result in a crash that causes serious injuries or even death.
